The French defender deal was a real hijack as Barcelona signed him with 50m euro in front of Chelsea’s nose.
Barcelona presented Jules Kounde as their latest signing this morning of early August. This is a real boost as the Catalan club is investing to improve their defense which has been their weak link for seasons.
Let’s analyze the details of Kounde deal.
The transfer fees are set at 50m fixed and 12.5m in variables, reports from Cadena Ser. Barca will be responsible for the amount of 2.5m/season if Kounde plays 60% of the games.
In total, Barca’s 5th signing this transfer window may cost them 62.5m euros.
How much is Barca paying for Kounde’s salary?
The now former Sevilla star will earn 9.5m euro in his first season at Camp Nou.
From the second season in his 5-year contract with Blaugranas onward, he will earn 12m. The signing bonus is rumored to be around 2m euros.
Adds-on included, too, among which will be a further one million if he wins titles with his new club.
How did Chelsea miss out on Kounde?
It is a miracle and mystery at the same time, on how Chelsea could miss out on their target and lost to Barca at the very end of the negotiation.
Monchi, Sevilla’s football director confirmed that Chelsea’s offer for the 23-year old defender was far better than Barça’s.
The London club offered around 55m pounds, along with 10m pounds in variables.
But The Blues surprisingly withdrew, before Barça joined and eventually, won Kounde deal.
“On July 21, Kounde was ‘sold’ to Chelsea,” Monchi told Sevilla’s club media. “They began to have doubts and pulled out. Then FC Barcelona appeared. The first time [sporting director Mateu] Alemany got in contact was on Monday.
“We received an offer that was lower than what we had in mind, but we renegotiated with them and reached an agreement for a club-record sale.”
Chelsea had offered him much higher wages, so despite having to settle for a lesser package, Kounde has made a significant effort to become a Barça player.
