Real Betis’ Borja Iglesias claimed La Liga’s first player of the month honors in the 2022-23 season. His role in the club’s unbeaten start helped him clinch the award.
The Galician striker was on hot form for the Copa Del Rey holders, as they won all three games to start their campaign.
The Panda beat out six other contenders, most notable were Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior and La Liga newcomer Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona. He delivered by scoring in each of Betis’ wins.
Iglesias struck the first of his quartet for August in their 3-0 conquest of Elche on August 15. He then followed it up five days later with a pair of penalties for an away victory against Mallorca.
Finally on August 26, he scored the winner at home against Osasuna, a right-footed rocket at the 34th minute, to complete his side’s trifecta of triumphs.
Apart from Iglesias, Juanmi was the only other goal scorer for Betis during that period – a brace in their opener versus Elche.
