What happened

In April, the Los Blancos midfielder was caught in a beef with Baena during Villarreal’s defeat on April 8.

Valverde and Baena exchanged heated words, but the incident worsened when the Uruguayan waited for Baena in the buses’ area and reportedly punched the Villarreal’s star in the face.

Yellow Submarine released a statement after the incident at the time and took the complaints to the police, given that the incident did not take place on the field.

“The Villarreal player Alex Banea last night suffered an attack while on his way to the team bus after the game against Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu,” read a Villarreal statement then.

“In light of this situation, the player has decided to file a complaint against the aggressor with the national police.

“Once again, Villarreal expresses its rejection of any act of violence and firmly believes the version of its player, to whom they will support throughout this process.”

The punishment

If confirmed by the Competition Committee, the punishment will be harsh as Valverde would miss the games against Athletic Club, Almeria, Celta Vigo, Getafe, and Real Sociedad.

The Madrid star did not deny the incident but revealed that Baena had insulted his family and claimed that the Villarreal youngster kicked him during the game.

“Cry now, your son won’t be born,” Valverde claims Baena said after an in-game duel.

Falcon (the player’s nickname) also said that Baena repeated something similar after the game, which is why things heated up, and eventually, Valverde decided to wait for Baena in the parking lot.

Valverde’s second son, Bautista, was born on Tuesday after a complicated pregnancy.
