Barcelona 2-1 Alaves Highlights

Barcelona’s performance has been abysmal lately, but somehow, they got what they wanted: three points.

At their temporary home, Xavi’s side, which struggled with the absences of many key players, came from behind to beat out-of-top-ten Alaves, thanks to a brace by Lewandowski.

The home victory moved Barcelona back within two points of second-place Real Madrid, who ran riot at Valencia 5-1 on Saturday. The surprise leader, Girona, also came from behind to win 2-1 at Rayo Vallecano.

The visitors took the lead in a breakaway one minute into the match as the Montjuic crowds stunned.

Polish talisman Lewandowski helped the hosts rally with a header in the 53th and a penalty kick in the 78th.

The former Bayern Munich star was recently sidelined with an injury and went under a goal drought, having already reached four games.

But against Alaves, while he had wasted precious chances, he still delivered with a superb header and a fantastic penalty to clinch the crucial win.

Barcelona extended its unbeaten run against Alaves to 12 league games, with 10 wins and two draws.

The Catalans suffered defeats in all competitions and needed a stoppage-time goal to win at Real Sociedad last weekend. Xavi must improve the situation before it gets worse.

Real Madrid 5-1 Valencia: Vini and Camavinga danced for a goal-fest at home

The host outclassed Valencia with doubles from Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, while Dani Carvajal was also on target, and the only consolation for the visitors was Hugo Duro’s late goal.

The win brings Real within two points of La Liga leaders Girona. Valencia dropped to ninth spot.

At 23, Vini has achieved so much, and on the back of two 20-goal seasons, he could be about to take his game to a higher plane.

Later Sunday, 15th-place Sevilla hosted seventh-place Real Betis in the Seville derby. Sevilla is winless in five straight league games, with four draws in its last four matches. Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis has won five in all competitions, including two in a row in the Spanish league.

Fourth-place Atletico Madrid also later hosts 13th-place Villarreal. Atletico is unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions, with nine wins and two draws..

SEVILLE DERBY

Ivan Rakitic scored in the 79th minute to give Sevilla a 1-1 draw with rival Real Betis in the Seville derby.

Ayoze Pérez had put the visitors ahead in the 72nd.

Seville, sitting in 13th place, had its winless streak in the league extended to six matches, with five draws in its last five games.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis, in seventh place, had won five in a row in all competitions, including two straight in the Spanish league.
