Mbappe out due to thigh injury

The Real Madrid forward exited the game in the 35th minute due to an apparent thigh injury.

Despite the setback, Mbappe capped off his night by making Champions League history, reaching the 50-goal milestone in just 79 matches — the fourth-fastest in the tournament’s history.

However, he will miss Saturday’s LaLiga contest at Rayo Vallecano and may miss the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, formerly known as the Club World Cup.

The Spanish giants confirmed that Mbappe sustained a thigh injury.

“Following tests carried out on Kylian Mbappé today by the Real Madrid medical department, the player has been diagnosed with a thigh injury in his left leg,” a club statement said.

“His progress will be monitored.”

The France forward has scored 12 goals in 22 appearances for Madrid in all competitions

What’s next for Madrid

ESPN reported that Madrid will not rush Mbappe back for the Intercontinental Cup final.

Madrid qualified for the tournament by winning last year’s Champions League.

They will either face Mexico’s Pachuca or Al Ahly from Egypt on December 18 in Doha, Qatar.

Madrid are second in LaLiga, only two points behind league leaders Barcelona.

In the Champions League, Madrid sit 18th in the 36-team table with nine points, three points behind the top eight spots that secure direct qualification to the round of 16.
