Barca’s hunt for goalkeeper

De Gea, 33, has yet to find a new club after leaving the Red Devils last season.

The Spaniard has been a free agent since parting ways with United, although he continues to receive offers from clubs in England and Saudi Arabia.

SunStar reported that De Gea is prioritizing to stay in Spain when choosing his next club.

Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo stated that Barcelona might be a viable option for De Gea.

In fact, the Catalan club have been monitoring the former Man Utd mainstay.

Barca is currently in financial trouble, so a free transfer for De Gea could come to fruition.

Reports mentioned that De Gea will serve as backup for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

In addition, Ter Stegen has attracted interest from Saudi Arabia.

The 31-year-old German recently missed 17 matches with a back injury.

Academy product Inaki Pena filled the void that Ter Stegen left this season.

However, Pena proved to be underwhelming so far, conceding 19 times in 10 LaLiga games played.

12 years with Man Utd

De Gea departed Manchester United after 12 years and 545 appearances with the club.

He helped Old Trafford win the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles.

Before capping off his stint with Man Utd last season, De Gea claimed the Golden Glove award last season.
