Barcelona hit with a fresh financial blow from La Liga

Barcelona have been hit with a fresh financial blow from La Liga after the latest report saw the club’s squad cost limits reduced.

The Catalan side has been struggling with financial barriers from their Spanish top flight for a long time. However, Barca’s La Liga titles won last season were incredible achievements they should be proud of.

Barcelona’s La Liga financial blow

Yesterday, La Liga announced that there would be a new limit for Xavi’s squad cost for the first division.

Blaugaranas will now see their limits reduce from €270 million to €204 million, making it extremely difficult to compete with other league giants and European opponents.

What is the cause of Barcelona’s financial issue

According to the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Barca have generated more expenses than the income they brought since September 2023.

Although this is more of an accounting issue and is included in the 2022-23 season books, it still impacts the club’s spending limits for the upcoming season.

Also, according to reports from MD, this is still a partial limit on which Barcelona will go into shopping in the summer market. A clearer picture will only be obtained in May when the club sends its treasury plan to the league authorities.

LA LIGA HIGHEST-PAID PLAYERS REVEALED

But what is clear for now is that unless Barcelona can reduce their €200 million deficit, they will continue to be bound by the 50% rule and not the normal 1:1. Thus, the Catalans will be able to use only 50% of the proceeds obtained from a player’s sale for registration of new players.

One operation that can significantly improve the club’s matters in this regard would be to obtain the outstanding amounts for the sale of Barca Studios. The Catalans still have to receive €40 million to catch up with La Liga’s calculation of the salary limit for Barcelona.
