Eto’o, who assumed the chief role in 2021, received criticisms from fans for his interference, especially when the squad underperformed in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Cameroon was eliminated from the tournament after losing to Nigeria, 0-2, in the Round of 16.
Song said that Eto’o, 42, is only doing his job as the federation president.
“He is the FA president, and he is passionate about his job,” he explained.
“You can see he is still passionate about football – there’s a difference, and that needs to be understood. Sometimes it brings up confusion.”
Cameroon player Faris Moumbagna also came to the defense of Eto’o regarding the African legend’s alleged interference with the squad.
“He said it in a way we understand – it’s about working as one, the players who were born in Cameroon and those who grew up in Europe,” he said.
“It’s the same blood and one unit – don’t misunderstand what he said.”
Eto’o, who serves as La Liga Global and M88 Mansion ambassador, is scheduled to attend the London Affiliate Conference at the M88 booth inside IGB London Ice on February 7 and 8.
Activities include meet and greet, photo opportunities, photo card signing, merchandise signing, and more.
