“I feel good” – Olmo on his Barca return
Barcelona moved nine points clear at the top of the LaLiga table after a 3-1 victory in the Catalan Derby on Sunday.
Olmo, a €60 million summer signing from RB Leipzig, put Barcelona ahead in the 12th minute from close range after a neat cross by Lamine Yamal.
Raphinha extended Barca’s lead in the 23rd minute before Olmo added the club’s third goal of the match.
“I feel good,” Olmo told reporters. “I was really looking forward to returning and being able to help the team on the pitch. I’m back, enjoying it, playing, winning … and I want more.”
The midfielder now has five goals in five league appearances, three of which came as a starter.
Additionally, Barcelona are the only team with four different players to have scored at least five goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season: Robert Lewandowski (14), Raphinha Dias (7), Lamine Yamal (5), and Olmo (5).
Flick happy to see Olmo back
Barca coach Hansi Flick praised Olmo’s goal-scoring ability, saying he made a huge difference in the club’s win.
“He knows how to score goals, this was for us very important today,” said Flick. “We are very happy Dani is back. Maybe he is not 100% still, but he’s back and was able to start. This is also why we won this match.”
Despite the win, Flick said he was not happy to see the squad falter in the second half after Espanyol scored a late consolation through Javi Puado.
“I’m not happy of course for the second half, but I say to the team sometimes it happens,” Flick added. “We lost the concentration, the tension. We made a lot of unforced errors. But it happens sometimes. Until now, the team made a good season with unbelievable performances.
“Also the first half [we were good], but not in the second half today. I accept that because we won, but on Wednesday we need another level.”
Barcelona is set for a Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade.
