La Liga 2023/24 Matchday 10 – Games to watch

Sevilla vs Real Madrid

Los Blancos will aim to post a fifth straight win in all competitions when they resume their La Liga campaign with a trip to Sevilla on Saturday evening. Carlo Ancelotti’s side would love to have a solid position before El Clasico.

The Madrid-based side are currently top of the table, picking up 24 points from their opening nine matches, while Sevilla sit down in 14th position, collecting only eight points from as many games in 2023-24.

Sevilla, who finished 12th position in La Liga last term, will have a new face in the dug-out this weekend, with Diego Alonso being confirmed as the team’s new head coach on a contract until the end of the campaign.

The 48-year-old has replaced Jose Luis Mendilibar, relieved of his duties earlier this month for a poor run of league results.

The Seville club have made an underwhelming start to the 2023-24 La Liga campaign, only picking up eight points from eight matches, leaving them in 14th position.

What’s more remarkable? It’s Sergio Ramos’ first time facing his former side since he moved to Sevilla. The Spanish defender helped the club win 22 titles in 16 seasons.

Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao

Barcelona hosts fifth-placed Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, and it’s a must-win mission for the Catalan giants.

Manager Xavi Hernández may be without several key players due to injury.

Striker Robert Lewandowski, who missed Barcelona’s last game, a 2-2 draw at Granada, may still suffer from an ankle injury. Xavi is also expected to be without starting midfielders Pedri González and Frenkie de Jong, forward Raphinha, and defender Jules Koundé.

Forward Lamine Yamal and defender Alejandro Balde could be back fit for Barcelona.

Bilbao will be without central defender Yeray Álvarez, who is expected to be sidelined for several months with a leg injury, while it hopes to have winger Nico Williams back.
