La Liga week 25 recap: Athletic Club prevail over Real Sociedad

Athletic Bilbao scored a flurry of goals in about 20 minutes to put down Real Sociedad, 4-0, in their La Liga meeting this week at San Mamés.

The Basque Derby was not without drama as Los Leones made up for the missed penalty on the first half to slot in four goals, staring with Dani Vivian’s header off a corner at the 68th minute. Oihan Sanchet followed suit four minutes later, the set piece coming from the other sideline.

Iñaki Williams then netted one in at the 80th minute before Iker Muniain capped the onslaught a minute before end of regulation.

With the win, Athletic crept closer to La Real on the table, a single point separating the two.

Atlético Madrid shut out Osasuna

Atlético Madrid outclassed Osasuna, 3-0, at El Sadar to find themselves on the upswing once again.

João Félix put one to the back of the net early on to set the tone of the match. Luis Suárez and Ángel Correa had one each during the second half to close the door on the hosts.

The victory kept the Colchoneros in step with Barcelona; goal difference being the only thing separating the two from UEFA Champions League qualification.
