La Liga week 26 recap: Sevilla trip Real Betis

Sevilla overcame Real Betis, 2-1, at home on February 27 to let clubs directly below them catch up. 

Ivan Rakitić scored a penalty at the 24th minute, followed by a Munir incursion 17 minutes later to stake their claim of the match. 

Sergio Canales clinched a consolation goal for Betis just before the final whistle. 

Wins by Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, Villareal, and Real Sociedad this week meant that only five points separate third and seventh place on the table. 

Meanwhile, Sevilla keep abreast of Real Madrid, trailing the league leader by six points. 

Valencia jump back into top ten 

Gabriel Paulista’s fourth minute goal was enough for Valencia to put away home side Mallorca, 1-0. 

The Brazilian defender unleashed a booming shot several meters outside of the box that evaded Sergio Rico’s reach after the ball bounced off the bottom end of the crossbar and into the mouth of the goal. 

This outcome had Los Che catapulting to ninth place after entering the week at 12th.
