La Liga Week 32 Preview: Sevilla vs Real Madrid

What to expect in the 2022 Sevilla vs Real Madrid match?

Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan hosts the week’s biggest match on April 18, 2022, as Sevilla plays Real Madrid that could be one of the potential title-clinchers in La Liga.

Julen Lopetegui’s side is hoping to get even with the league leaders, with the defeat on their first meeting still fresh into the Andalusian side. On November 29 last year, Los Blancos came from a goal down to defeat Sevilla, 2-1 at the Bernabeu in the match of week 19. That means anything less than a win would see their title drought extend to 76 years.

Overview

Real Madrid is currently on top of the league with 69/70/72 points, 12/13/15 behind Sevilla as of this writing. They have bounced back from their El Clasico defeat at the Bernabeu to win 2-1 at Celta Vigo on April 3, thanks to Karim Benzema’s penalty brace.

Meanwhile, Sevilla’s men endured a winless March (three draws) after completing their double at El Grande Derby last February. Their grip in the second ended last April 4 at Camp Nou after Pedri’s wonder strike snapped their 15-match unbeaten run in league play.

Stats

It will be their 156th meeting in La Liga for both sides, with Real Madrid having an 83-27-45 (win-draw-loss) record against Sevilla, and on a six-match unbeaten run.

Sevilla plays better at home, where they won 37 and drew 15 in their first 77 meetings, but their most recent win came in 2018, back when Lopetegui was then in charge of Real Madrid when they beat them 3-0.
