Deportivo Alavés Club Summary
Deportivo Alavés, SAD are a club based in Vitoria-Gasteiz. They currently play at Mendizorrotza, which seats almost 20,000 people. They are one of the most recognizable clubs hailing from the Basque Country, along with Athletic Club and Real Sociedad.
The Babazorros reached their zenith to date in their European debut, facing Liverpool in the final of the 2001 UEFA Cup. They also reached the Copa del Rey final in 2017.
Deportivo Alavés have been at La Liga for a total of 17 seasons. Their current streak of six consecutive seasons in the pinnacle of the pyramid has been their best stint so far.
Aside from regional championships, Alavés’ only other trophy come from the Copa Federación de España, which they won back in 1946.
They were originally known as Sport Friends Club in 1920, but recognize their official foundation a year later when they took their current name.
