Barcelona could acquire Nico Williams

Williams, 21, has emerged as one of Spain’s top performers in EURO 2024 in Germany.

His contract with Athletic includes a release clause worth around €58 million ($63 million).

Laporta said Barcelona will sort out their finances soon and will be able to sign Williams.

“Economically speaking, we could commit to the signing of Nico Williams,” Laporta told Catalunya Radio on Monday.

“Nico’s a player I like — I like him a lot. We are working with [new coach Hansi] Flick on possible signings. Now we have to leave [sporting director] Deco to close the operations we are working on.

“Shortly we will be able to announce some good news with regard to the financial [issues] and we will be back within LaLiga’s Fair Play limits. And that will allow further good news in terms of [signings].”

Focused on EURO 2024

Spain, which has won five straight games in EURO 2024, will face France in the semifinals.

When asked about his future in LaLiga, Williams insisted that he is focused on his campaign with Spain.

“In the end, my brother [Athletic teammate Inaki Williams] is a very important person for me. He has lived a similar situation to mine,” Williams said.
