The story behind Karim Benzema’s hand wrap

As you all know, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema has been wearing a bandage wrapped on his right hand.

However, there was a huge buzz on the Ballon d’Or winner’s hands during the ceremony in Paris last Monday where it was shown a crooked right pinky for the world to see.

After searching the world wide web, there was a simple answer to it: It was all related to football.

It came during a La Liga away trip to Real Betis on January 2019, which ended up a 2-1 win for Los Blancos.

Benzema was substituted at halftime, after his collision with then-Betis defender Marc Bartra resulted in a horrible fracture on his pinky after trying to break his fall.

Flashback to January 2019, where Karim Benzema hurt his right hand after colliding with Betis’ Marc Bartra.

Facing a prospect of missing the game for at least two months, the French striker refused to go under the knife right away, and wore the said wraps for the first time at home to Sevilla.

What follows is a four-match stretch where in Benzema found the net six times in both La Liga and their Copa Del Rey quarterfinal tie against Girona. He later become the club’s top goal-getter at the end of their trophyless season, their first without star man Cristiano Ronaldo.

And there’s no stopping him though, as he led Los Blancos in scoring for the next four seasons, the most recent of which culminated in his golden season.

It even came to a point that Adidas posted this short video on his Ballon D’Or win, where even his bandaged hand turned into shining gold.
