Franck Kessie scored a dramatic late winner as Xavi became the first Barca’s manager to win three Clasico in one year, since Pep Guardiola in 2011.
Surprisingly, all three goals scored in the clash between Barca and Real in La Liga 2022/23 MD 26, came from the Catalan’s players.
Ronald Araujo’s own goal offered Madrid an early lead, but Sergi Roberto’s first half injury time goal restored the game, all before Kessie’s late winning goal in the 95th minute closed the latest Clasico in dramatic fashion.
Xavi’s side started the game with strong determination and Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois was put to the test early in the game.
Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski took turn to threaten the opponent’s post, but the Belgium goalkeeper kept the home team at bay.
At the other’s end, Vinicius Jr put Araujo on alert with his pace and crosses, and the Brazilian’s effort paid back as Barca’s centre-back headed into his own net from one of those crosses by Vini.
Blaugrana fought back on the stroke of half-time, as Eder Militao blocked Raphinha’s low shot, but the ball fell to Sergi Roberto, who fired into the bottom-right corner to equalize.
Marco Asensio, who had his very first touch since being subbed in, thought he had snatched victory when turning home Dani Carvajal’s cross. However, VAR reviewed and ruled out the goal for Asensio being offside.
Late drama came when Kessie cooly finished into the bottom-right corner in the dying minute to seal the victory.
It was all from a nice back-heel pass from Lewandowski, which initially set up Alejandro Balde before the full-back assisted Kessie to mark the 100th El Clasico win for the host.
La Liga standings
Beating the rival always means a lot, in this case, it is nothing more than a solid statement for the Catalans, that they are in it, to win it.
12 points clear atop, Barca is believed to have 95% to win the league this season.
What’s next?
La Liga will be on the international break, and will resume on April 1, as Barca visit Elche, while Los Blancos host Valladollid.
