Girona still in fight for La Liga top four, says manager
There’s renewed optimism for Girona fans to fight for the Champions League as they are seeking a top-four finish.
Girona manager Michel Sanchez noted that they are “still in a privileged position” in the La Liga table despite losing 2-3 to Athletic Club on Monday. That left the Whites and Reds at 56 points for second behind Real Madrid’s 62.

“I’m not saying that we are a Champions League team, but we are not going to be out of the fight,” the Girona manager said. “We’re going to fight for the Champions League.”
In their last match, Girona fell behind by three errors at the back at San Mames. That allowed Alex Berenguer to score in the second and the 56th minute, while Inaki Williams delivered the insurance goal or Athletic in the 60th minute.

“At San Mames, everyone has suffered. The data is good, we have generated chances, and so have Athletic, of course,” Sanchez said.
Girona has a tight schedule with four matches, one against No.10 Getafe. The club will also face Real Betis and Atletico Madrid in their chase for the top four.
