Modric signs extension with Real Madrid

The signing came a day after unveiling Kylian Mbappe as their latest player.

The Spanish champion also revealed that Modric, 38, will now serve as Los Blancos captain in the upcoming season.

Former Madrid captain Toni Kroos announced his retirement after the 2023-24 season concluded.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Luka Modric have agreed to extend the contract of our captain, who will be linked to the club until 30 June 2025,” Real said in a statement.

Modric to continue his legacy with Real Madrid

Modric, who joined Real Madrid in 2012, recently won his sixth Champions League crown and his fourth La Liga title.

The Croatian has already amassed 26 overall trophies, including five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, two Copas del Rey, and five Spanish Super Cups.

Modric won the Ballon d’Or, the FIFA Player of the Year Award, and was named UEFA Player of the Year in 2018.

In his 12-year career in Spain, Modric has scored a total of 39 goals in 534 games.

Modric started in all three of Croatia’s matches at Euro 2024, becoming the oldest goalscorer in EURO history.

However, Croatia suffered an early exit after finishing third in their group.

Nonetheless, Modric isn’t hanging up his boots on the international stage despite Croatia’s early exit.
