Ancelotti proud of Real Madrid
Madrid surpassed Manchester City after Los Blancos emerged victorious, 4-3, in the spot-kicks.
Despite a nip-and-tuck affair from both clubs, Ancelotti was delighted to see his squad defend well against the reigning champions.
Madrid also remained resilient in the penalty shootout, which propelled them to a victory.
“We started well, we took the lead and then we started to defend, to suffer, to qualify,” he said.
“We thought we would play differently, but when we took the lead we dropped the block too much. And City had more control. It always has. I think we defended very, very well.”
“Madrid have done it many times. It’s this badge. In the shoot-out we were convinced we would qualify. Andriy had a fantastic game. I really like it when a team sacrifices, fights. Besides the quality. This is the only way to win here.”
“I am very proud. This team has an extraordinary commitment, which has been forged this season with the injuries at the beginning. I think everyone is very focused on how to defend and they are doing well.”
Madrid will face Bayern Munich in the semis, but they are all set for their El Clasico match against Barcelona on Sunday.
Despite the short break, the Italian manager insisted his players will recover in time for their clash with Barca.
In fact, Ancelotti issued a warning to those who are doubting Madrid.
“We don’t have any physical problems, and we have time until Sunday to recover. We will sleep here calmly to recover and realise that we have achieved something very good. Everyone thought we were dead, but Real Madrid never gives up because Real Madrid never dies.”
