Kubo broke league record
The 21-year-old right winger has broken the record previously set by Takashi Inui in 2017/18 as the Japanese with most Spanish elite league goals scored.
His sixth goal of the current campaign in a 2-0 win over Getafe set the the single-season scoring record for a Japanese player in Spain’s top flight.
Mikel Oyarzabal nodded home in first-half stoppage time to give La Real the lead.
Then Kubo capped a fine attack down the left on the hour mark by tapping in Mikel Merino’s cross to put his club in a safe position in top four (4th with 51 points).
Sociedad won their second straight home game and sit fourth in the league.
Kubo’s react to his record
“There haven’t been many Japanese players in La Liga, so it’s a different situation to a Spanish player scoring six goals,” Kubo said in a TV interview.
He came from Barcelona‘s youth system before signed by Real Madrid in 2010 as free transfer.
Later on, Kubo was sent to Mallorca, Villarreal and Getafe with all three of those were on loan spells before joined La Real permanently for his fourth season in Spain.
“We’re returning to a La Real who impose ourselves on our rivals, which we were doing before we dropped off a bit,” Kubo said of Sociedad’s recent form.
“A win at home in front of the fans is always important.”, he concluded.
