Why Matchday 6 Is Different
Matchday 6 does not follow the usual weekend pattern. Real Sociedad and Celta Vigo played their fixture on September 3, finishing 0-0 at Reale Arena, while the other nine matches were placed across September 15, 16 and 17.
That means Real Sociedad and Celta have already played six league matches, while most of the division entered the remaining Matchday 6 schedule having played five. The temporary imbalance matters when reading the table: points totals should be compared alongside matches played until the round is completed.

5 Table Swings to Watch in Laliga Matchday 6
1. Real Madrid Can Put Immediate Pressure on Barcelona
Real Madrid beat Elche 3-2 at the Martínez Valero. Madrid led 2-0, Elche recovered to 2-2, and substitute Carlos Espí scored the stoppage-time winner from a Kylian Mbappé assist. The victory moved Madrid to 15 points from six matches, level with Barcelona before the leaders face Racing Santander.
Elche begin the remaining round in 19th place with two points, while Madrid have scored 14 league goals and conceded only four. The fixture gives Madrid a chance to force Barcelona to respond rather than simply chase the leaders after the fact.

2. Barcelona Can Make It Six Wins From Six
Barcelona 7-2 Racing Santander extended the leaders’ perfect start to six wins from six. Raphinha scored a hat-trick as Barcelona moved to 18 points. Racing remain on seven points after six matches.
The sixth straight Barcelona victory moved them to 18 points, three points clear of Real Madrid after both clubs completed six matches.
Barcelona’s attacking form also keeps attention on the season-long scoring race. Follow our updated Lamine Yamal vs Mbappé Laliga goals comparison.
3. Betis Can Stay Level With Madrid — or Even Move Above Them
Real Betis moved to 12 points by coming from behind to beat Villarreal 2-1 in the final match of Matchday 5. Their Matchday 6 home fixture against Getafe gives them another opportunity to stay in the early title conversation.
A Betis win would take them to 15 points, level with Real Madrid. Their final position relative to Madrid would then depend on the applicable Laliga tiebreakers after both clubs have completed six matches.
Catch up on the comeback in our Villarreal 1-2 Real Betis report.
4. The 10-Point Group Could Break Apart
The former 10-point group has now split apart. Atlético Madrid and Sevilla both moved to 13 points with September 16 wins, while Deportivo Alavés remain on 10 after losing 1-0 to Valencia.
- Alavés 0-1 Valencia: Luis Rioja’s 78th-minute goal gave Valencia their first league win and left Alavés on 10 points from six matches.
- Atlético Madrid 4-0 Osasuna: Atlético moved to 13 points from six matches.
- RC Deportivo 0-1 Sevilla: Sevilla moved to 13 points and ended Deportivo’s unbeaten start.
The completed results have separated Atlético and Sevilla from Alavés, while Deportivo remain on nine points after six matches.
5. Málaga vs Villarreal Is Already a High-Pressure Bottom-of-the-Table Match
The final fixture of the round could be one of the most important despite not involving a title contender. Málaga enter Matchday 6 on three points and Villarreal on two, placing both clubs near the relegation places.
Villarreal earned their first league win with a 3-1 victory at Málaga, moving to five points from six matches. Málaga remain winless on three points from six matches.
